Every year, in the proper season, we train to mitigate emergencies on the water and ice. Our two rescue boats will respond to incidents on
Grand Traverse Bay,
Boardman
Lake and
Boardman
River. In conjunction with
the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Dive Team, we perform water rescues
involving disabled watercraft's and swimmers in distress. Marine Rescue 2 is also equipped with a portable water pump and fire hose to extinguish any watercraft fires that may occur. Rescue 1 has the equipment to perform rescues involving victims falling through the ice. Just
a few of these items are: Dry Suits to protect our rescuers from the
cold, a MARS sled able to slide upon the ice and float out to a victim,
ropes to haul everyone back to safety and various other tools required
to rescue those in need.
