TRAVERSE CITY PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS
LOCAL 646
Public Education & Fire Prevention
Educating the public on how to prevent fires and what to do in the event of fire is another of the many services we provide our citizens.  Making sure our citizens are safe is our main goal.  We are staffed with full time Inspectors who make sure all the 2,800 commercial structures in the city follow the proper building codes and requirements.  They also go to schools with a smoke trailer that simulates a smoke filled environment teaching children how to get out of their home quickly and safely.  Firefighter familiarization is one of many presentations our Inspectors give to show what a Firefighter will look like and sound like in full firefighting turnout gear and air pack.  This is done to ensure children that even though we look different and sound funny, we are there to help them.
